Julie Christie

August 02, 2010

If you have TCM, don't miss all the fantastic Julie Christie films airing today as part of the annual Summer Under the Stars festival. Of course they're airing the fabulous epic Dr. Zhivago (not the least bit overrated.. if you haven't seen it yet, do it! Even if you don't like tragic films -- I'm looking at you, Millie) but they're also showing Darling, one of my personal favorites (and not just because my no. 1 favorite Dirk Bogarde is her co-star) and the offbeat drama Petulia.

Personally, I'm super excited because they're showing so many of her films that I don't yet have on DVD! The Fast Lady, In Search of Gregory, Far From the Madding Crowd, Petulia and Demon Seed are all programmed into my DVD recorder. If you like Julie Christie -- and who doesn't?! -- make sure you don't miss this lineup! I personally think she's the greatest actress of her generation, and can't wait to see the movies they're showing that I haven't seen yet, and re-watching the ones that I have! :)

Hey, I like musicals! Just not super saturated technicolor ones from the 1950's with modern dancing!!! :D But give me a 30's musical any day!

Great work Kate. What movie is that image from?

I really want to see Far From the Madding Crowd. That's one of my favorite stories of all time and I wouldn't mind seeing Julie Christie's take on Bathsheba Everdene.

Thanks Raquelle! The screen shot I used is from Darling. I really want to see Far from the Madding Crowd, too! I haven't read the book but it looks really good!! :)

I am so glad that they devoted today to Julie Christie. And I love the films that they chose for her, especially since many aren't shown on the telly very often. That having been said, I would have rather they showed Fahrenheit 451 instead of Dr. Zhivago. It seems as if Dr. Zhivago is shown so much more than Fahrenheit 451!

I think you'll love Petulia and Far from the Madding Crowd. I'm not so sure about Demon Seed. I love it, but it is on of the most frightening movies I've ever seen (proof you don't need gore to be scary!).

I've seen Petulia and love it, I just don't have it on dvd yet.. but I do agree about Dr. Zhivago... when I first saw the TCM schedule I was a little disappointed that 4 hours of her day were going to be taken up by a movie that they show all the time. I do like Fahrenheit 451 better, also because I love Oskar Werner :-)
