Gloria Swanson - Pola Negri - Anita Page - Anna May Wong - Colleen Moore- Theda Bara - THEY HAD FACES!

March 31, 2009

As Norma Desmond once said "we didn't need voices... we had FACES" -- silent movie stars really had the most interesting, fascinating faces (and hairstyles by the way) of all the different eras of movies. I picked out six of my favorite faces, and here they are!
By the way-- if you like any of these, don't forget that you have about 24 hours (until 11:59pm EST on April 1) to get my prints 1/2 price, with free shipping (domestic & international) for details, click here.

I really like the Theda Bara painting, she looks so other worldly. I haven't seen any of her films, is there a good one to start with?

Elizabeth-- Thanks :)

Iren- Well, only four of her films survived the ravages of time (and fire)-- I looked on Netflix and they have one title available, "A Fool There Was".. since there isn't much of a choice, I'd start with that :)

I did a post on my blog of "A Fool There Was" if you want to look it up:

Thanks for the link, Elizabeth! I have a million things to do, and I found myself being drawn into the movie! I had to stop myself for now, but I'm going to come back later and watch the whole thing :)

These are amazing, as usual. :) I think Anna May Wong is my favorite. I'm so glad you used red for the background - she truly deserves red. Don't you just love her in Shanghai Express?
