Night Must Fall (1937)

Spoiler alert: this post is only going to make sense if you've seen the movie!
This movie was so ahead of it’s time. Robert Montgomery plays a headstrong ne’er-do-well who charms his way into invalid Dame May Whitty’s good graces while news of a grisly murder is making headlines. Rosalind Russell also stars as Whitty’s level-headed niece/caretaker who suspects Montgomery of the murder, constantly torn between morbid curiosity and the realization that she may be in over her head.
The plot is full of twists and you can never quite figure out where it’s heading. Off the top of my head I can’t think of any Robert Montgomery performance that I enjoyed more than this one — it really was head and shoulders above the rest. So go ahead and watch it, I promise you’ll fall head over heels.
