Gable could have stayed in his comfort zone and reigned as the King without trying too hard. That he occasionally took chances with his image, such as this delightful clip, and when he (more reluctantly) did the crying scene in "Gone With the Wind", is so endearing, and so laudable. You have to admire the sexy lug.
You have to admire the sexy lug! I think the idea that he was taking chances with his image is what endears this scene to me so much! He's so carefree about making fun of himself :)
